Aici sèn pla

This blog started as a daily record to mark our fifth year at Segala. Daily it did not turn out to be but after the year I have decided to continue as an occasional diary - after all I do still like it here or "aici sen pla".

Its our fifth year living at Segala. I have decided to try to mark this year with a daily post ( some days it will be just a photo) of our life over the year. I have trawled my brain for witty titles without success then I remembered the slogan on the T shirts at the fête in Espinas in the summer.

A friend translated it from the occitan for us. It seems to mean something along the lines of I like it here. Very apt for us, "I like it here " is a refrain we use to each other at least daily so that's the plan - Aici sén pla - a year of daily musings from a contented retired expat who thinks herself damned lucky every single day.

Autumn blowing in but we aint finished yet

Spring and autumn are the peak seasons for the Autun wind to do its worst. Last night it kept me awake until I got up to close the bedroom window and it has blown pretty hard all day.

The banana plants are showing the effects, the top leaves are already shredded to ribbons. Its not cold though and we were able to have lunch outside as usual .

This morning it was quite useful to have the wind cooling us down, there is such a lot to do in the garden. I have cleared one side of the flower garden - just a few persistent specimens sticking it out.

No doubt the first frost will be here soon enough but for now there are still plenty of splashes of colour left.

The yellow rose at the side of the house is having a late summer party!

And there's another persistent specimen too - TC is still enjoying the pool almost every day - the water has stayed at 20 the last few days although today with the wind it did look a bit like a rough sea.

Its been an interesting weekend with the Parisot literary festival happening. This afternoon we got a rest from garden jobs to listen to a talk by Clive Pontin about the causes of WW1. He achieved notoriety/fame as the "whistle blower" who exposed the lies told about the sinking of the Belgrano during the Falklands war. His talk was really interesting and overall I have been impressed with the festival - and all for free!
